For many of us, cranking out a ten-minute mile on a treadmill or pounding the floor of the racquetball court can mean major joint pain. As a form of physical exercise, yoga indeed is a force to be reckoned with.
The extreme nature of many positions, and stretches, could cause serious injury in the hands of a lesser teacher. If you have been considering learning yoga or have recently begun a yoga practice, I hope to provide you with some useful and helpful tips in which may be helpful to you in using yoga for beginners. Aerobic exercise is great for burning calories, and strength training works very well for strengthening your muscle groups, but yoga goes far beyond either of those forms of exercise and can benefit you both physically and mentally.
With yoga, the frequency with which you work on your positions is as important if not more so than the length of the practice sessions. Try and find first of all, which style of yoga you think you would benefit from the most.
Even flexing activities could help a stressed person by loosening the tight muscles. Perhaps you will find that blood pressure problems improve, or back pain may improve or even just that you get a better nights sleep. It is normal for people to feel apprehensive about change, but change is often one of the gateways to success.
No matter how many books you read or tapes you watch, you will never get the feedback and encouragement that you will with the right teacher. Lastly, regular Yoga practice will lower stress levels, allowing you to sleep better, and feel energized the next morning.
